Accessibility

Ledgr works to WCAG 2.2 level AA. This page says what we measure, on every build, against that standard; what we know still falls short; and how to tell us about anything that stops you. It is a target we work to, not a certificate: no outside body has audited Ledgr.

What is measured on every build

Each of these is an automated test, run before every release.

  • Text at twice its size. Each of the 15 main module screens — from Invoicing and Contacts to Payroll and Production — is drawn on a phone-width screen with text at 200%, and no button or label may be squeezed to nothing. On a narrow screen at large text, the page name moves to its own line under the top bar so the menu and the page's own buttons keep their room.
  • Icon buttons are named. A button that shows only an icon on a small screen still tells a screen reader what it does.
  • Warnings reach a screen reader. Refusals and warnings are part of the screen's accessibility information, not only coloured text.
  • Working offline is announced. When your connection drops, when work is saved on this device to send later, and when it has gone up, a screen reader says so — the change in the top bar's sync indicator is announced politely, without interrupting.
  • Messages stay long enough to read. A message such as "Contact saved on this device" stays on screen for as long as it takes to read it — about a third of a second for each word, and never less than four seconds.
  • Colour is never the only signal. A record waiting to sync says "Waiting to sync"; one the server refused says "Not sent".
  • Things you tap are big enough. Icon buttons keep a touch area of at least 48 by 48 points, even where the icon itself is smaller.

What still falls short

  • In a web browser, after a dialog closes, a screen reader can lose the rest of the page until it is reloaded. This is a fault in the user-interface framework Ledgr is built on, fixed in its next release; Ledgr will move to that release once it is stable and re-check every dialog. The Android, iPhone and desktop apps are not affected.
  • Colour contrast is checked screen by screen wherever a fault has been found, not yet measured across every screen.
  • The dashboard, Settings, Reports and SARS screens are not yet part of the 200% text check above.

Tell us about a barrier

If something in Ledgr stops you, or takes far longer than it should, email support@bcmobiletech.co.za and say which screen and what you were using — a screen reader, large text, a keyboard.
